Goodness by the Gulp

Dean Foods' dairy products provide natural health benefits. Milk is packed with 8 essential nutrients, making it one of the most naturally nutrient-rich beverages you can enjoy. Dairy products provide calcium, Vitamin D, phosphorus, potassium, and high-quality protein, which are associated with a number of health benefits, including supporting bone and heart health. Drinking eight ounces of delicious and nutritious milk helps you get one step closer to meeting the Dietary Guidelines for Americans' recommended three servings of low-fat or fat-free milk or milk products a day.1

Staying Healthy

In addition to promoting bone health, several studies show that increasing dairy intake as part of a low-calorie, nutrient-rich diet could lead to a significant reduction in overall chronic disease risk.

Other recent research suggests that dairy products may help reduce the risk of hypertension, help achieve and maintain a healthy body weight, and play a beneficial role in cardiovascular disease, Type 2 Diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. 2-5

It's not surprising that low-fat and fat-free milk products are one of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines' "food groups to encourage" given their high nutrient density and their emerging role in health promotion.1

New Discoveries - Milk as a Recovery Aid

Recent studies show that milk is a great recovery beverage after exercise. Milk is a great choice after a workout because it contains an ideal mix of protein and carbohydrates that help replenish your exhausted muscles, which can help you stay in top shape and keep up with your busy schedule.

Build Muscle. Burn Fat. An article in the August 2007 issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition states that reaching for a tall glass of fat-free milk after lifting weights may actually help build muscle and burn body fat. Click here to read the entire article.

Drink It In. In May 2007, the British Journal of Nutrition noted that a glass of low-fat milk may keep you hydrated after exercise better than a commonly used sports drink, or even water. Click here to read the entire article.

Go Chocolate! A report in the March 2007 issue of the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise shows that chocolate milk is a surprising new option to help refuel tired muscles after exercise. Click here to read the entire article.

Spread the Joy of Soy

Dean Foods through its WhiteWave division offers a full line of Silk soy products, including plain and flavored soymilk, organic soymilk, enhanced and light soymilk, soy creamers and soy yogurts. We take seriously our role in helping consumers better understand the health benefits of soy and encouraging them to introduce soy into their diets. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol that includes 25 grams of soy protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease.6 Soy protein may also help promote bone health, alleviate symptoms of menopause and reduce the risk of certain types of cancer. We use only whole soy beans in the manufacture of our products to preserve the great taste and nutrition Mother Nature intended.
