Inaugural Pink Packaging Campaign Supports Breast Cancer Awareness
DALLAS, Sep 5, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ — In an effort to
further enhance Sun Soy’s support of breast cancer awareness and research, an
inaugural Pink Packaging campaign benefiting The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation will run during the months of September and October.
The newly designed eye-catching pink packaging will be available beginning
September 1 through the end of October, Breast Cancer Awareness month. During
this time, a donation of $115,000 will be made to The Susan G. Komen Breast
Cancer Foundation.
“As the battle against breast cancer continues to be waged, there is a need now,
more than ever, to raise the funds — and awareness — needed to end this
disease,” said Bing Graffunder, president and chief operating officer of
Morningstar Foods Inc., maker of Sun Soy. “Sun Soy is proud to expand its
partnership with The Susan G. Komen Foundation in an effort to eliminate this
disease that has touched the lives of so many.”
The Pink Packaging campaign will be supported with new advertising and coupons
in select markets.
In 1999, the FDA stated that consuming 25 grams of soy protein daily, as part of
a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol, can help reduce the risk of
heart disease.* Currently, Johns Hopkins University is conducting a clinical
trial with breast cancer patients involving the intake of soy on a daily basis.
One study is designed to see the potential impact daily soy intake has on
reducing the proliferation of breast cancer cells for women diagnosed with
ductal carcinoma in situ, or DCIS; a condition that can lead to breast cancer.
The other study looks at the ability of daily soy intake to control menopausal
symptoms for women who have completed breast cancer treatment and are suffering
with hot flashes.
Sun Soy contains 6.25 grams of soy protein and 33 milligrams of isoflavones per
eight-ounce serving.
“Drinking Sun Soy is a simple part of a healthy lifestyle,” said Graffunder.
“During the months of September and October, Sun Soy’s Pink Packaging campaign
will bring the Komen Foundation that much closer to helping eradicate this
disease.”
Sun Soy is also proud to be partnering with The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer
Foundation for the third consecutive year to support 16 local Komen Race For The
Cure(R) events throughout the United States. The Sun Soy sponsored cities
include San Diego; Dallas; Phoenix; Houston; Denver; Baltimore; New York City;
Portland, Ore.; Seattle; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Pittsburgh; Peoria,
Ill.; Detroit; Minneapolis/St. Paul; and St. Louis.
Sun Soy will have a booth at these 16 Races for participants to experience the
great taste of Sun Soy with free samples, valuable coupons, and drawings for
free one-year magazine subscriptions. Consumers can register for each race by
using the Komen Race For The Cure(R) link on www.sunsoy.com .
Sun Soy is a non-dairy, lactose-free, low-fat and cholesterol free beverage. It
