Morningstar Foods Offers New Flavor in the Spirit of the Hispanic Tradition
DALLAS, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ — The newest flavor of International
Delight® coffee creamers is spicing up the dairy case and is sure to
jump-start your morning cup of joe. International Delight Canela flavor is
the first nationally available Latin-flavored, cinnamon coffee creamer to
debut nationwide from Morningstar Foods Inc., a subsidiary of Dallas-based
Dean Foods Company (NYSE: DF).
Morningstar Foods manufactures and distributes ten flavors in the
International Delight brand family. International Delight Canela is produced
with appeal focused on traditional Hispanic flavors and cooking rituals.
“With over 32 million Hispanics living in the U.S., we wanted to unite the
unique, cultural taste of Canela with traditional American coffee
consumption,” said Bing Graffunder, president and chief operating officer of
Morningstar Foods. “Based on our consumer research, we have developed a
flavor that offers a rich taste true to the Hispanic heritage and cultural
preferences.”
Sales of International Delight Canela in San Antonio, Texas, during its
test market in the first quarter of 2002, reflected the untapped market niche
of traditional ethnic flavors. Based on the test market success in the
initial launch in Wal-Mart stores, as well as its popularity in San Antonio,
where the Hispanic population makes up half of the total population, Canela is
anticipated to be very well received as it is rolled out nationally.
“With so many non-dairy creamers available on the market today,
Morningstar Foods has continued its vision of reinventing the dairy case with
this unique flavor of creamer,” said Graffunder. “Regardless of cultural
origin, consuming a cup of coffee is a personal moment for coffee drinkers to
escape or relax, and most Hispanic consumers relate to Canela in terms of
personal (or professional) aspirations.”
Consumers who enjoy creamer, yet are not able to tolerate lactose, may
incorporate International Delight non-dairy creamer into their cup of coffee.
Approximately 60 percent of Hispanics over 40 years of age are lactose
intolerant and constantly search for ways to enjoy the sweet taste in coffee
creamers.
International Delight Canela flavor is available in 16-oz. paperboard
packaging with a convenient, re-sealable plastic pour spout. The new flavored
product is available in the refrigerated dairy case of select traditional
retail outlets, as well as select Wal-Mart stores and supercenters.
